Team First, Business Success Next

A small business owner with a beard and mustache, wearing a dark button-up shirt, smiles while sitting in a dimly lit office with modern decour.

“First who, then what.”

I recently read a book called “Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap… and Others Don’t” by Jim Collins.

If you haven’t read it yet, you should, especially if you’re a business owner looking for ways to improve your business.

Jim discusses some interesting frameworks, providing theoretical guidance on how to take businesses from “good” to “great”.

One concept that stood out to me is called “First Who, Then What.”

The essence of this framework is that as a business leader, you should first look to find the right people, and success will follow automatically.

Takeaway:

  1. Focus on assembling the right team first.

  2. Select people based on how they align with your vision, values, and goals.

  3. Surround yourself with people not only based on skills but also passion and drive.

Here’s to working towards business prosperity.

Till next time,
