May is almost here, and we can finally celebrate longer days, better weather and generally happier people. Plus, there is a bank holiday to look forward to if you live in the UK.
This blog article will share my top 3 content category types and 15 social media ideas for May 2022, plus 10 May blog ideas. The ideas can be used for any industry and platform, so steal them and get posting!
May Content Pillars
There are 7 main content theme categories I recommend for every social media plan:
Promotional
Entertainment
Customer Focused
Motivational
Community
Educational
Personal
Each of these categories can help build interest and engagement with your followers differently. A personal brand should look to focus on personal, motivational and community. A business should incorporate promotional, customer-focused, education and community.
However, there is no right and wrong, and you should test content types for each category to see what works best for your audience and brand.
Which Content Pillars Should I Use For May?
May is a transitional month between the start of spring and summer. People start to get into the summer mindset by spending more time outside and, of course, doing things. It's also a month when people refresh their wardrobe, buy outdoor gear, spend money on trips, and invest in their summer bodies.
With that being said, here are my recommended content pillars for brands of all types:
1) Promotional
Time to sell your products. Like I said in the opening paragraph, people are more likely to buy things in May. Well, as long as the products or services are summer-themed.
So if you're a clothing store, e-commerce business, landscaper, holiday booking company, personal trainer or outdoor furniture shop, this month is for you.
Create deals, entice customers, show off new products or start your summer marketing campaign early.
2) Motivational
Something about the sun makes people happier and more motivated to do things. That is why it's a perfect time for your brand to share motivational messages to help drive energy and passion amongst your audience.
You can do this with quotes, success stories, videos or images of people enjoying the outdoors and the sun.
3) Community
Longer days and warmer weather means spending time with friends and family. BBQs, outdoor walks, sports, trips and meals start happening more often in May.
Create content that highlights the community aspect of your business or products. For example, you can do a new photoshoot in a field, with a BBQ and everyone having fun.
